He then had his string of blockbusters like The Last Airbender, After Earth, and The Happening. It's definitely up there for me, but his grounded work with Unbreakable is truly his crown jewel to me.
Nearly every movie buff praises his film The Sixth Sense as his best, and rightfully so. Night Shyamalan has been a director I have admired, but have only connected with a couple of times. Overall this was entertaining enough to keep me interested with a handful of decent kill scenes, unlike some of the other real stinker on his filmography like The Happening and Lady in the Water. If you're like me and your take on him is ?♂️, you'll be ok. If you're a Night hater, you'll despise it. And this is yet another long-ass movie that should have mandated edits to get it to 90 minutes.Īt this point, everybody knows Shyamalan's shtick by now. He takes forever to tease the first "reveal," even though the main premise is essentially spoiled in the movie title. The movie does look fantastic at times, and there are some intriguing shots - stillness interposed with movement, closeups interposed with distance.īut as is typical for Shyamalan, the acting is wooden as hell and the characters have zero depth. Night Shyamalan welcomes them to his version of beach hell. That's the first thing that hit my overworked brain as I started Old as the family drives up to the resort, fruity alcoholic beverages immediately placed in their hands, and M. and of courseKokomo - wherever the hell that is. Man do I miss the tropics - Maui, Hawaii, Phuket (Thailand), Boracay Island (Philippines), Isla de Mujeres & Ixtapa (Mexico), the Florida Keys.
